Who we are
Los Angeles based artist, Jim Galli started slacklining in 2016 in Santa Monica.
His background in skateboarding, soccer, water polo and other sports helped him overcome the physical and mental challenges of balancing on different types of slacklines.
He quickly got serious about his practice and within only 3 months of slacklining he stepped onto his first Highline which he would rapidly start excelling at.
From setting and breaking records, inventing tricks and pioneering new lines all over the country, he started to perform his art and teach it to others along the way.
Now fully certified from the International Slackline Association (ISA) as a rigger, Jim is also a Rope Access Technician with an IRATA level 3 certification and SPRAT level 2.
why slackademic?
“Slacklining is such a wonderful activity. The more I got into it, the more I realized my life was better because of it. I noticed it for myself but also my friends and the people around me that were practicing this sport. It had such a positive impact on those who tried it. When I saw the joy that everyone was experiencing from it I knew I wanted to share it with as many as possible. I was always reminded why I got into it in the first place, because its FUN.
The slackline and Highline have so much to offer, from the mental aspect to the physical. It not only teaches you patience, focus, determination and commitment. It also teaches you how to access these feelings with a healthy confidence. Breathing is a big part of success on the line, it allows you to keep calm and trust yourself during the process.
With some of the techniques that SLACKADEMIC has to offer, you can apply them in your day to day life as well. Things that can usually be overwhelming like taking a test at school or the pressure of completing an important task can now hopefully be a little bit easier and less daunting.
We go through life on our own most of the time, it’s the same when you try to walk across a slackline, no one can do it for you. But it’s important to remember that you didn’t get to where you are by yourself, and that you are not the only one trying to get there. Happiness is meant to be shared and that’s one of the reasons why slacklining with other people is more fun.” -JIM GALLI
